As has happened in other countries with major “Belt and Road” projects, Kazakhstan has ended up selling a significant share of the Khorgos Port to China in return for loans, grants, investments, and technical assistance. China now has access to train lines to Iran and Europe as a result, as well as access to significant natural gas resources through the Central Asian Gas Pipeline. Again, as has happened in other countries with major “Belt and Road” projects, Kazakhstan has ended up selling a significant share of its infrastructure to China.
